#3 Between Us and Nature – A Reading Club
Wednesday, 20th of September 2017 - 19:30
Dear friends, in June some of us have started reading together “The Triumph of Seeds – How Grains, Nuts, Kernels, Pulses & Pips Conquered the Plant Kingdom and Shaped Human History” written by Thor Hanson. We continue diving into seeds on Wednesday, 20th of September, 7:30pm at Zabriskie bookstore. Anyone is invited (no matter if already participated in June or not) to meet, connect and discuss seed strategies and how they are shaping our human history.
The author’s website says about the book: We live in a world of seeds. From our morning coffee to the cotton in our clothes, seeds support diets, economies, lifestyles, and civilizations around the globe. In The Triumph of Seeds, Thor Hanson (author and biologist) explores both the natural and cultural history of seeds - why they are dominant in nature, and why we are so utterly dependent upon them.
The NYT review says: The overarching tale is one of survival: how these seeds through trial and error have developed an incredibly complex and varied assortment of survival strategies for a singular obsession — to ensure the continuation of the species.
We will read some passages together and discuss the text and seed dispersal and survival in time and space and what it means to us humans.
Come and join us with an open mind here:
Where: Manteuffelstr. 73, 10999 Berlin at Zabriskie book shop
When: Wednesday 20th of September, 19.30
Who: small group of lovely people who would like to meet you
Why: to read, be inspired and meet people
